Main
train station (Hauptbahnhof) to the garden/herbarium (Staatssammlung): Take
the street car (trolley) no. 17 in the direction of “Amalienburgstraße” Trams
leave directly outside the station, about every 10 minutes. If you are
arriving by train within Germany, your ticket will be valid all the way to
the Botanical Garden. (Otherwise you would need to buy a trolley ticket
from one of the vending machines on the platform from where the trams leave.
It's worth getting a “Streifenkarte” for 10 Euro. This is valid for about 4
rides, so will also take you back or elsewhere in the city. When boarding the
tram, fold your Streifenkarte and insert its lowermost 2 'stripes' (of paper)
into one of the validation machine inside the car.) Get out after 16 min at
“Botanischer Garten”. The herbarium is in the huge Art Nouveau building next
to the main entrance to the botanical garden. Walk up the stairways to the
right. Dr. Schuhwerk's office is along the first floor corridor.
