Heinrich E.
Weber's interest for batology (research into genus Rubus) was aroused
in the 1960s during a phytosociological study on the hedges ("Knicks") in
Schleswig-Holstein, northern Germany (see Weber 1967). It became obvious that
particularly the many brambles - with respect to phytogeography, phytosociology
and ecology - proved to belong to the most significant plants of the scrub
communities investigated. The lack of a true basis for determination of the
different species - due to insufficient taxonomical research - became quite
clear at that time. - Meanwhile some 150 publications on Rubus have been
published by H. E. Weber. Only books are quoted here (the first one dealing with
phytosociological aspects):
